Why Study With Kirk?
Why Study With Kirk?
Customer Satisfaction:
Read what Kirk's students have to say…
Teaching Style:
Above all else, lessons are all about the joy one receives from playing music, regardless of the style of music or playing level. Kirk's philosophy on teaching music is to provide the tools and concepts necessary to achieve the goal of the student. Lessons are steered toward the styles of music the student is most passionate about. If you are not sure yet, we'll figure it out together!
Experience:
With 25 years of teaching guitar experience and a conservative estimate of 40 lessons a week, Kirk has given over 50,000 guitar lessons.
Hal Leonard Method Book Author:
Over the course of those 50,000 lessons, Kirk formed a few ideas about how to present the concepts that every guitarist needs to learn. Hal Leonard Publishing agreed, releasing five books (Open Chords, Power Chords, Barre Chords, Lead Guitar Secrets, Jazz Guitar Chord Thesaurus, and the soon to be released Lead Guitar 101) which enable the sharing of these concepts on a larger scale.
Real World Experience:
A guitarist since the age of three and a half years old, Kirk landed his first weekly gig playing in church every Sunday at the age of five. Since then, he's recorded multiple albums and played on countless others as a sideman. His abilities as a guitarist have enabled him to perform all around the US, including NYC, LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Milwaukee where he continues to play most, and nearly every bar/roadhouse off I-94 between Green Bay and Chicago. In addition to the books Kirk has authored, he has worked behind the scenes on countless others for Hal Leonard music publishing doing freelance editing, arranging, proof reading, and recording. Never be afraid to ask your teacher to play something and expect to hear something beautiful!
Embracement of Technology:
For many years, the computer and internet have been an integral part of the lesson experience. It offers access to a multitude of pre-prepared songs and other lesson material Kirk has written over the years. Accessing songs a student wants to learn has never been easier, and often the original audio can be slowed down to a tempo reasonable for the student to play along with and break down for study.
