At the age of three and a half years old Kirk showed an extreme interest in the guitar group at Sunday church, dancing and playing air guitar along with the music. Thankfully his parents were thoughtful enough to feed the fire, asking leader Bob Kosmoski if he was old enough to learn. Bob took him on as a student, and by the age of five he'd joined the band and landed his first weekly gig.
Private lessons continued and led to high school jazz band, study at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music with Mark Woerpel, and forming rock bands that played everywhere and anywhere they could. Realizing it was now or never, Kirk decided the guitar would be his "trade" and enrolled at MATC to study with world renowned jazz guitarist Jack Grassel. Many musical doors opened here while studying about all kinds of music and improvisation.
Since then, Kirk has recorded multiple albums of original music, played on countless others as a sideman, authored six guitar instructional books published by Hal Leonard, a seventh self published title, and created commercial music for clients like Mercury Marine, the Milwaukee Brewers, GE, the Milwaukee Bucks, Red Star Yeast, and Northwestern Mutual. In addition authoring, Kirk has worked behind the scenes on countless books for Hal Leonard music publishing doing freelance editing, arranging, proof reading, and recording backing tracks for books. His abilities as a guitarist have enabled him to perform all over the US and nearly every bar/roadhouse off I-94 between Green Bay and Chicago. Kirk continues to perform, compose, teach, author instructional books, and do sessions mostly in the greater MKE area.
